Most would prefer to watch video for free, but a significant minority is willing to pay in order to avoid at least some advertising. That suggests a hybrid model of reduced advertising along with smaller fees-similar to cable TV.

“@Drew” Twitter Handle is up for grabs to the highest bidder. Proceeds will go to the Livestrong Foundation and Drew Carey has promised to pay $1 million if he gets 1 million followers by years end… Still think Twitter provides no value?
54% of companies ban Facebook, Twitter at work.
YouTube hits 1 Billion views per day. Take THAT McDonalds!
Are Google & Microsoft in talks with Twitter to license their real time search feeds? And, why isn’t Twitter in talks with Google to monetize their search results?
75% of small businesses haven’t found social media to be helpful. Although, 86% haven’t even taken the time to try and use social media for their businesses. Sounds like those business owners have made a well informed decision…

Companies must plan holistically for social media – beyond marketing

What’s New In Social Media – 7/30/09

Have you heard of Backtweets? It’s a great little search engine that let’s you search for keywords within the shortened links people use on twitter. Now you can see who’s sharing your content even if they don’t mention you in the copy of their tweet. Here’s an example searching for www.weareorganizedchaos.com
Still think creating your own gated social community is the way to go? Social networks are growing while other social media sites are declining and/or stagnating.
Social Media widgets drive sharing on Facebook.
This is a case study waiting to happen on how a corporation shouldn’t handle social media. A realty company sues a tenant for 50k over a tweet.

What’s New In Social Media – 7/9/09

Facebook debuts “Fan Box” tool. Want to see it in action? Just look down at the bottom of the right hand column of our blog.
After smashing a passenger’s guitar, the only thing that would get United to pay attention was a song he posted on Youtube… it had to go viral first though.
Facebook Connect is a huge success. Here are some numbers to back that up.
